Alison & Rafael Rozo

Allison Rozo is a picture book author and artist. She was raised in Orrville, Ohio, before moving to Chicago, Illinois. After 16 years she and her family moved to Northeast Ohio to be closer to her parents. She and her Colombian native husband, Rafael Rozo, write bilingual stories in English and Spanish for their children to weave together their two cultures. She also writes stories in English, as well as creating illustrations.

Allison’s grandmother was a librarian and an incredible storyteller until Alzheimer’s silenced her magical voice. Allison hoped that she would one day have stories to share, just like her grandmother. She first tip-toed into the picture book making process through illustration, but when she began to write her own, a door opened in her mind, flooding the pages. Stories she never knew existed bounced from her fingertips, creating new worlds out of words. Allison’s greatest joy is when her stories and art make children smile. In her free time, you can find her doodling on paper bags with her children, cuddling with her cats, and creating stuff out of felt and cardboard.

Allison received her BFA from Miami University of Ohio in the History of Art and Architecture and she studied Graphic Design at Harrington College of Design in Chicago. She graduated from Loyola University in Chicago, receiving her Certificate in Paralegal Studies, and was a litigation paralegal at Baker & McKenzie LLP, where the dramatic scenes of trials unfolded like acts of a play. She is a member of SCBWI and the 12x12 Picture Book Challenge. Allison was honored to be a PB Party 2021 finalist and a PB Chat Mentee Runner-up in 2020.
